Conducted Energy Weapon Policy

This policy provides guidelines for issuing and using a Conducted Energy Weapon (CEW). This policy outlines the Bakersfield Police Department’s values and standards as they apply to the use of a Conducted Energy Weapon to ensure the force is used to exercise lawful authority judiciously, with the paramount concern being upholding the rights secured and protected by the Constitution of the State of California and the United States Constitution, the dignity of every individual, and the sanctity of human life. This policy applies to all members of the BPD. It requires officers to monitor, evaluate, and carefully balance all interests when using force decisions in a professional, impartial, and reasonable manner.
